Psychologist in Sacramento
It can be challenging to find the right psychologist in Sacramento for you. Well, look no further… My name is Dr. Martha Williams, and I am a Licensed Psychologist who has been practicing for over 30 years. Based in San Francisco, I’m excited to be able to work with you virtually in Sacramento.
Meet Dr. Martha Williams — Your Sacramento Psychologist
Throughout my career, I practiced in hospitals and private medical practices, while also in my own private practice in the Bay Area. I received my PH.D in Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, and I am a member of California’s Psychological Association and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Network.
Over my 30+year career, I have successfully helped countless clients navigate anxiety and depression, creating a safe space to achieve their goals. My approach to therapy is extremely collaborative and supportive. I view our relationship as a partnership, where I can help you feel heard and understood, while also keeping you progressing.
I have had extensive training and experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment (ACT), and Mindfulness Techniques to help clients progress. With these approaches, I can help you manage emotions, improve relationships, and develop coping skills to strengthen your resilience. I have found this approach to be especially effective when working with goal-oriented individuals, a trait I often see in Sacramento folks.
Dr. Martha Williams Services
There are many reasons someone might come to me for therapy, but here are a few of the most common:
-
Anxiety is something you carry with you. It might feel impossible to relax your mind and body, even in the absence of a stressor. I can help you calm your mind and body, and better manage stress through targeted CBT and mindfulness. In our sessions, you will learn practical coping methods and strategies to keep in your back pocket so you can ground yourself when you need it most.
-
While it’s natural to feel “down” sometimes, persistent sadness and decreased motivation may be signs of depression. If you’re feeling alone and stuck, I promise to offer you a safe space to recover your well-being. With my support, you can expect to develop practical tools that will enhance your day-to-day and get you back into a healthy routine. Together, we will help you move forward on a positive path.
-
The emotional challenges of chronic illness are often eclipsed by the physical ones, and this can be difficult to manage alone. While therapy alone can’t eliminate your symptoms, through our work, you can learn to manage the stress and emotions that come with your experience. Therapy is a safe space to enable you to work through everything affected by your condition, helping to manage your mind while your body focuses on healing.
-
When the big moments in life start to feel challenging, that might be a sign to start therapy. My approach to life transition therapy can help you navigate whatever changes you’re facing, and the emotions that come with it, whether or not they’re expected. We will work together to examine the thoughts, beliefs, and feelings that come with change, and address them so you can move forward to achieve your goals.
-
Sometimes, it can help to slow down and explore the issues in your relationships. A common misconception is that relationship therapy is only for couples, but many different types of relationships can surface challenges. Whether you’re struggling with work relationships, family, friends, or a romantic partner, I am here to help you navigate ongoing conflict and develop healthy boundaries by making the time and space for reflection and support.
How Virtual Therapy Works
Step 1: Book a Free 15-Minute Consult
If you’re looking for a safe space to navigate challenges and learn helpful tools, book a free consultation with me. This is a low-stakes conversation, with no commitment needed. We’ll spend our time getting to know each other to see if we’re a good match.
Step 2: Your First Session
If we decide to move forward, we’ll discuss your short- and long-term goals so I can structure each session to help manage your behaviors, emotions and challenging moments. Together, we’ll work on strategies and tools to improve your everyday coping challenges.
Step 3: Ongoing Support
You might be wondering, “How long does therapy usually take?” That’s entirely dependent on the goals we want to accomplish. For more complex issues, we will meet as long as needed, but for specific challenges, you may only need a select number of focused sessions. My approach will be tailored to you and your needs.
Why Virtual Therapy Works
It can be difficult to prioritize yourself amidst a fast-paced career, social life, and day-to-day obligations. In fact, most of my sessions are done virtually, despite having an office in San Francisco. With virtual therapy, you have the flexibility to do your sessions anywhere, anytime. I am excited to serve as a psychologist in Sacramento through telehealth therapy, ensuring you have access to care that fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.
